Every dish has a story. It may reflect a region, a family tradition, a celebration or the movement of people between countries.

The GACE Project is bringing these stories into vocational education, helping learners explore European food heritage while developing a deeper understanding of culture, diversity and shared European values.

Turning Food Heritage Into a Learning Resource

Gastronomy gives educators a practical way to introduce cultural topics through something learners encounter in everyday life.

GACE will develop an educational guide exploring the relationship between gastronomy and values including inclusion, equality, respect, solidarity, tolerance, cultural diversity, sustainability and cooperation.

European Values Education Through Food

A dish can reveal much more than its place of origin.

It can introduce conversations about migration, local identity, family traditions and cultural exchange. Exploring these connections can help learners understand both the differences and common experiences found across European communities.

20 Recipes, 20 Cultural Stories

A central part of GACE will be a digital collection of 20 recipes from at least 10 countries.

Recipes will be selected for their history, symbolism and cultural significance as well as their culinary qualities. The collection will explore where dishes come from, the communities connected to them, when they are prepared and how they have changed or travelled between cultures.

A Multilingual Gastronomy Platform

The recipes will form part of an accessible digital platform bringing together stories, photographs, videos, educational resources and employability guidance.

The website is planned as a multilingual resource for students, educators, VET centres and hospitality-sector stakeholders. Accessibility measures will include readable language, legible text, accessible colours, representative imagery and audio-supported key content.

Resources Designed to Last

GACE is a 26-month Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership in Vocational Education and Training, running from 1 September 2025 until 31 October 2027.

Its longer-term vision extends beyond the funded period. Partner VET institutions intend to incorporate the materials into their teaching programmes, while the project’s digital platform is planned to remain operational for at least three years after project completion.

By making its educational resources digital, multilingual and available under open licences, GACE aims to support wider access, adaptation and continued use.
